The 3-step playbook

Good TikToks don't
happen by accident.

One clear idea. A little intention.
A video that feels like you.

01 / The hook

Give them a reason to stay.

Lead with the result, a question, or a surprising detail. Skip the long introduction. Try: “Here's why your outfit feels unfinished.”

Try it: write 3 opening lines.
02 / The shot

Make simple look intentional.

Film vertically, face a window, and clean your lens. Record a wide shot, a close-up, and one detail. Keep your voice clear and the background quiet.

Try it: film one moment 3 ways.
03 / The edit

Cut to the good part.

Trim pauses and repetition. Add readable captions, keep text away from the screen edges, and make background music quieter than your voice.

Try it: watch once with sound off.

Before posting: does the opening make sense, is the sound clear, and does the ending deliver what you promised?

Age, audience
& censorship.

Know who can watch your TikTok—and what can limit its visibility.

01 / Age matters

Know the minimum age.

TikTok accounts generally require you to be at least 13, with different minimum ages in some locations. Teen accounts have extra privacy protections, and some features have higher age requirements.

02 / Your audience

Some content is adults-only.

TikTok may limit content with mature themes to viewers aged 18 and over. Restricted Mode also filters content that may not suit everyone. An age restriction does not necessarily mean a video broke the rules.

03 / Content moderation

Limited reach or removed?

TikTok can remove rule-breaking videos or make some content ineligible for the For You feed. These are different decisions. Check the notice in the app and use the appeal option if you believe a decision is wrong.

Blurring an image or bleeping a word does not automatically make a video compliant. Consider the full context, audience, visuals, and audio. Read the Community Guidelines.

You don't need to go viral.
You need to get going.
